Ironworkers Local No. 584 has helped enhance the common good of society by increasing the standard of living of those who work in the ironworking industry. They offer apprentices with ambition in the ironworking industry to work alongside and assist journeymen on their path to one day becoming a journeyman for themselves.
Through their Apprenticeship program, iron working mastery is achieved through experience in a series of job situations, combined with a parallel program of study and related instruction. The program consists of 3 years of being an employed apprentice where apprentices will be required to complete:
- 634 hours of related instruction
- Attend classes in related supplemental instruction for a minimum of 212 hours per year
There are 7 periods that each Apprentice must work through before becoming a Journeyman Ironworker. Each advancement to the next period increases the percentage of a Journeyman’s pay ($25.00/hour) that the Apprentice will receive.

IBEW Local Union 584 is located at 584 S. Lewis Tulsa, OK 74104 and offers apprenticeship programs for aspiring Electrical workers. Baby boomers are retiring every day causing the electrical industry to lose journeymen and wiremen constantly. The Sheet Metal Workers’ Joint Apprenticeship Committee is another 5-year apprenticeship program that offers 200 hours of in-class training per year with a minimum of 1600 hours of OJT per year for a union contractor. This program features many benefits which include a competitive salary, family health insurance coverage, local and national pension funds, and a 401(k).

The Tulsa Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee offers on-the-job training for inside wiremen, construction wiremen, and construction electricians. Qualification Requirement for these programs are as follows:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able and willing to follow safety procedures.
- Must be and remain drug-free of any illegal usage of drugs
- Must be able to get to and from job sites anywhere in the jurisdiction
- Must be willing to follow instructions and to work cooperatively with others.
- Must be able to read, hear, understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

Jones Acoustics, Inc. employee will have accrued or obtained the equivalent of 715 hours of classroom education, 5,200 to 8,000 hours of On the Job Training, and will receive a certificate of completion from the U.S. Department of Labor, as well as, a certificate of completion and wallet card from the National Center for Construction Education and Research. The program consists of two segments; “On the Job Training” (OJT) and 715 hours of classroom curriculum and lab training as prescribed by both accrediting entities.
The “OJT” portion of the program consists of eight, six-month segments. During each segment, the employee will receive hands-on training in the mechanics of the trade commensurate with that particular level. The employee’s performance and work categories will be monitored and documented by a qualified M.L. Jones Acoustics, Inc. supervisor via the OJT evaluation form.”
