Career Tips From the Country’s Most Successful Entrepreneurs
Unemployment rates soared in 2020, following stay-at-home orders and mass closures of several commercial establishments. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in April of the same year, it jumped from over 4% to 16%.
Although in October of 2021, it has dropped back down to 4.6%. Regardless, it’s clear that there are still people who are struggling to get back on their feet.
For those in the market for a new job or to improve their existing careers, it’s imperative that you stand out from the competition. One way is through a great apprenticeship. In our write-up on ‘Why an Apprenticeship Program May Be a Great Option for You’, we highlight how the proper apprenticeship program can help you build a solid foundation when starting (or entering) a new profession.
We also talked about how it is never too late to start a new career, as long as it is something you’re passionate about. But don’t just take our word for it, you can also take the advice of many successful people — those who have made a name for themselves and become prosperous in their fields.
Here are 3 tips from some of the most notable entrepreneurs in the country:
Do work you care about – Arianna Huffington
It is always important to have a career where you are doing something you truly care about. If you don’t, there’s a chance that you will hate the work that you have. Arianna Huffington, one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people, says that if you are doing something you are passionate about, everything else like money, influence, and success will surely follow.
Continue to find a career that mixes your passion, beliefs, and talents into a role so you can find the most success in your job. This is also important because if you love what you are doing, you won’t feel like you are working at all. It will allow you to continue to push yourself and strive to do your best.
Never stop learning – Tim Ferriss
Growing in your profession often means that you have to change with the times. You have to continue to learn new strategies and keep up with the changing trends. In his book Tools of Titans, Tim Ferriss says that his life was built on a foundation of mentors who gave him advice and motivated him.
This made him realize that the world is his classroom, and you should never think you’ve learned enough. If you keep challenging yourself to master new concepts in your field, you will continue to become better and more knowledgeable.
This also entails learning from mistakes you have made, or from people who have more experience. Pick up pieces of wisdom and reliable strategies from wherever and whoever you can so you can keep getting better at your work.
Take risks – Jeff Bezos
Risks are extremely important in a successful career. This can come in the form of opening your own business or applying for new positions within a company. CEO and founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, explains how America’s foundation is built on taking chances.
There are times when you have an idea that may or may not pay off, but you will never know unless you try. Sometimes, to make changes for the better, you’ll have to take a leap of faith and hope for the best. If it doesn’t work out in your favor, just pick yourself back up and try again.
If it does, you could be rewarded in ways you couldn’t even imagine. Continuing to play it safe might be comfortable but taking a risk might be able to bring you the kind of success you are looking for.
These entrepreneurs are some of the most prosperous people right now. If you are looking for a change in your career, it might be time to take some of their advice and see where it takes you.
