OJT in Trinidad And Tobago

On-the-Job Training in Trinidad And Tobago

The OJT on-the-job training program in Trinidad has undergone a lot of changes in the last few years, and still continues and will continue to change.

In case you’re wondering, on-the-job training programs are a hands-on method of teaching and learning the skills needed for employees to efficiently perform a specific job in the workplace.

I don’ t think we understand how important and beneficial training programs are to the development of our country, given the state of our country. Everything now requires experience, from babysitting, office work, to construction. You’re more qualified for a job based on your experience, a lot which is given to you at very little cost if any cost at all.

So why not take full advantage of these resources?

Trinidadians are handy people, most of us are good with our hands. Myself, for instance, growing up I’ve always liked doing hair, I was also pretty good at it, so I did OJT  to further advance my already existing skill, now I’m Certified to work in a salon or start my own business.

Being good at something doesn’t necessarily make you qualified, experience does. And what better way to gain that experience than OJT?

Why Is OJT Necessary For Our Country

Having a background in OJT is very important when applying for a job. A skilled society helps in the economical use of material and machinery and improves the morale of employees to efficiently perform the job/task. A lack of productivity has occurred over the last few years, our economy could use improvement. In response, skills are the key policy solution.

How Does OJT Benefit You

On-the-job training isn’t only beneficial for trainees, but for employers as well. For employees, being trained on the job can be a valuable asset for the company because they’re likely to cover more areas than just the task in their job description.

For employers, on-the-job training is beneficial because it tapers down and prepares the skilled employees who are may be right for the company, benefiting from a more productive workforce.

OJT Supports and Enhances the Economy In Trinidad and Tobago

Having a skilled workforce will improve the economy of any nation. OJT supports manufacturing jobs, enabling Trinidad and Tobago to import less and export more. I believe that if Trinidad and Tobago focus’s more resources on improving our current OJT programs, the countries GDP will increase.

Thereby; improving the economic state of our beautiful twin islands. Incentivizing Millenials and Generation Z to take part in OJT programs will aid in this process.
