About the Iron Workers Union Apprenticeship Program 

Carpentry Apprenticeship Certificate

Depending on the requirements of the local union, most ironworker apprenticeships last 3 to 4 years. An ideal schedule provides equal training in structural, reinforcing, ornamental, welding & rigging.

The length of training for each subject may differ depending on the type of work available in the local area.

It is required that apprentices receive at least 204 hours of classroom and shop instruction during every year of their training. The subjects taken in the shop and classroom complement the hands-on training received in the field.

The subjects include blueprint reading, care and safe use of tools, mathematics, safety issues, welding, and oxy-acetylene flame cutting.

What Is Required by Apprentices:

  • Must be at at least 18 years of age
  • Regular school attendance
  • Be drug and alcohol-free
  • Dependability on the job
  • Complete cooperation & willingness to learn
  • The ability to work as part of a team

The Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD) 

The Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD)  Carpentry Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion program is a successful and highly respected program.

As a student in their Carpentry Apprenticeship program, you will receive important hands-on training, helping build many homes through strong community partnerships, including Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns in Wyoming.

The Carpentry Apprenticeship program also offers evening classes to accommodate working individuals. You will have the opportunity to compete in the annual Wyoming SkillsUSA competitions as a student in the program.

Many of their students have won top honors at the state level and earned trips to the National SkillsUSA Championships, getting to travel to places like  Kentucky, Kansas City, and Louisville.

Wyoming Electrical JATC

The Wyoming Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee is a cooperative training effort between the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the Local Unions #322 and #415 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) whose jurisdictions cover the entire State of Wyoming.

Since 1965, the Wyoming Electrical JATC has been registered with the Department of Labor-Office of Apprenticeship. The JATC program has trained 100’s of Wyoming workers that became licensed Journeymen electricians since it’s creation.

With an IBEW Electrical Apprenticeship, you can earn a career in the electrical construction industry with great opportunities.

  • The applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
  • Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Applicant must show proof of one credit in algebra with passing grades or completion of the NJATC Tech Math Course

Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialist (ACDS)

The Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialist (ACDS) is a statewide training program that builds a competent, sustainable workforce to provide quality care and education to West Virginia children.

In 1989, the director of the West Virginia Department of Labor approached River Valley Child Development Services to develop and provide an apprenticeship training opportunity for individuals with a career in childcare.

The partners collaborated and united with local state programs to secure funds and create a curriculum. The first 4-semester course was successfully implemented as a pilot in the year 1989 with 17 apprentices.

The program has received national recognition as the first early childhood apprenticeship model in the United States Of America.

Since its establishment of the program, The (ACDS) has continued to evolve. Their trained staff are currently employed in Head Starts, childcare centers, preschools, school-age care programs & public schools.

The ACDS program requires a total of 300 hours of course work and 4,000 hours of on the job training. It also requires the full commitment of the apprentice’s employer to provide supervision & support of the apprentice’s laboratory work and an increase in wages upon successful completion of the training.

The ACDS program has had great success in producing intelligent early childhood professionals because of its “hands-on” approach. Being in a classroom setting with other teachers from different centers is a great resource for sharing knowledge amongst each other.

Teachers who have completed the ACDS program have gone on to continue their education and obtain a degree in childhood education.
