The median salary of criminal investigators and detectives in general stands at $77,210.
For cybersecurity specialists, the average compensation is a competitive $284,000.
In comparison, a primary care physician (PCP)’s average annual compensation is $195,000 (Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2015).

- Chief Security Officer: 225,000
- Lead Software Security Engineer: $233,333
- IT Security Consultant: $198,000

- The cybersecurity market is expected to grow to $170 billion by 2020.
- The Cisco 2014 Annual Security Report said that over a million openings in this field are concerning in the face of increasing data breaches and online attacks.
- Over 350,000 cybersecurity jobs in the United States are vacant, while postings are up 74%. Demand is expected to grow by 53% through 2018 and 36.5% through 2022.
- According to CyberSeek, a project supported by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), the United States employs approximately 780,000 people in cybersecurity positions.
