QUALIFICATIONS

Low: An Associate Degree with/or Professional Courses and Allied Certification Courses like IBM Certified DBA – DB2, Oracle Certified DBA or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert SQL Server DBA, etc.;
On the Job Training (OJT), Apprenticeships, IT Workforce Job Training or Experience.

Medium: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology with majors in MIS, Math including calculus, linear algebra, geometry, differential equations, etc.; IBM, Oracle, or Microsoft DBA Certifications will be a big plus.

High: Post Graduation in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology. IBM, Oracle, or Microsoft DBA Certifications or an MBA, especially in MIS with will be an added advantage.

SKILLS/ TRAITS NEEDED

The Database Administrator must be detail-oriented with strong “hands-on” analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication, creativity, planning and strategy, time management, prioritization, inter-personal & soft-skills, and must be constantly updated with the latest IT trends in networks, database, and security, with in-depth database and architecture knowledge, and be self-organized and proactive to address new IT initiatives.

WORK FUNCTIONS

The Database Administrator is responsible for managing computer system databases ensuring 24x7x365 availability of the data produced and consumed by the organization IT systems with periodic and timely data backs ups to ensure business continuity. They plan and allocate the database system’s data space requirements, such as memory, disk space; and optimize networks, create database instances and do data structure modification, data migration, besides monitoring and optimizing the database’s performance. Other responsibilities may include creating and maintaining user profiles/ security/ access permissions, vendor license agreement compliance, preparing a backup and recovery strategy, status reporting, besides subordinate training. They may sometimes be needed to work in shifts.
