Congratulations to the 2020 Classroom Grant Winners.

18 service territory educators receive grants for classrooms.

It was a strong field of Classroom Grants applications, but MEC staff had the difficult task of trimming a pool of over 40 down to 18.

The 18 winners represent 10 schools in the MEC service territory with Fort Mojave Elementary leading the way with four winning applicants.

The winners are: Abigael Hall, Janice Feria, Kandice Nichols, and Tiffany Higgins with Fort Mojave; Anna Boyd, Arlene Nicolas, and Stephanie Eastman with Mohave High School; Aga Cook and Francesca Agnelli with Camp Mohave Elementary; Brittney Mauer and Kimberly Armstrong with Sunrise Elementary; Sonyia Roy and Wendy Hardy with Desert Valley School; Dione DeBord, Young Scholars Academy; Jean Thomas, Academy of Building Industries; Kirk Gebicke, River Valley High School; Michele McGinnis, Bullhead City Middle School, and; Monica Voss, Montessori Preparatory Academy. This marked the second consecutive year MEC received over 40 applications.

“Hopefully more educators will submit applications in the future,” Mocarski said. “MEC understands the hardships teachers face when it comes to budgets and they often dip into their personal funds in support of their students. “This is one way MEC can show its appreciation.”

The winning projects ranged in scope from using a Q-ball to enhance the educational experience to Recycling Renegades, Number Sense, Exploring Inventions, World History Travel, and Grow Your Garden.

“One thing you learn being a part of the Classroom Grants process is that there are a lot of wonderful educators in the community,” Mocarski said. “They all have a passion to help their students grow and learn. These are the future of our communities.” Educators often provide pictures of their programs in action. As these photographs become available, they will be posted on the MEC Facebook page with a short description.

Mohave Electric Cooperative’s Classroom Grant Program is funded through assigned capital credits with no expense to members.
