TILE PRE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM STARTING JUNE 7TH 2021

The four week  pre apprenticeship is a competency based, self-paced training program. Each of the 4 unit’s are approximately one week. Each unit contains a combination of hands on mock-ups and related classroom instruction. The related classroom instruction is designed to support the disciplines that are covered in the hands-on portion of the training. This includes in part or whole trade/skills, trade math, safety training, basic layouts, job professionalism, trade history and labor-management relations. This outline is the minimum trade disciplines and related training that are needed to complete the program. You will be required to pass the Performance Assessment Reports as well as maintain an average of 75% on all written exams to pass this course and qualify for a recommendation to our signatory contractors.

This training program is intended to provide entry level contruction workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards on a construction site. The training empasizes hazard indentification, avoidance, control and prevention.

COVID-19 UPDATE

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to answer some questions on how we are going to approach the apprenticeship training we are following the best available advice from the CDC, MN OSHA and CPWR. All apprentices and staff’s safety is of utmost importance as we approach how we are managing our training.

MN Stay safe as released guidelines for Seated Entertainment and Meeting Venues. MN OSHA has advised us to follow these guidelines you can find them here, https://staysafe.mn.gov/industry-guidance/index.jsp. We are requiring anyone entering the building to wear a mask. Avoid touching surfaces as much as possible, practice good hygene and practice 6′-0″ social distancing. Our classroom and shop is set up to allow for 6′-0″ distancing while doing the hands on portion of related training. Classes have been set at sizes to stay within the allowable amount of personal in the building at one time. Therefore it is imperative to attend your scheduled class.

SCP FOREMAN TRAINING

Supervisor Certification Program is a 16-hour course designed to develop skilled foreman in the Masonry Trades. Through this course participants will learn how to communicate effectively, apply leadership skill, develop effective teams, and support worker motivation. Participants will also learn how to maintain labor-management relations, plan and schedule work, how to ensure worker safety, productivity and quality of work.

These skills will be taught through written material, group interaction and working as teams.

SCAFFOLD USER

Scaffold User – This is an 6-hr class emphasizing the basic safety and hazard awareness for fabricated frame systems.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Recognize hazards associated with scaffolds
  • Proper scaffold erection, use, access and maintenance.
  • Requirements of the competent person.
  • Identify potential scaffold hazards.
  • Describe methods to control or minimize hazards associated with scaffolds.

FIRST AID/CPR METRO

6 hour safety certification through Minnesota Safety Council that includes 1st Aid, CPR, and AED (use of automated external defibrillator) Must pass written exam to recieve certification.

BASIC BLUEPRINT READING

This 16_-hour course is designed to prepare the BAC craftworker to read and interpret construction drawings. During this course, the BAC craftworker will learn how to identify types of drawings; read lines and symbols on drawings; identify views of drawings; interpret information in drawing title blocks, notes and specifications; read actual construction drawings; and describe the use of technology to read and use drawings on a construction site.

Course Objectives: 

After completing this course, the BAC craftworker will be able to:

  • Identify the types of construction drawings
  • Read lines and symbols on drawings
  • Identify orthographic, architectural, floor plan, section and detail drawings
  • Interpret information in title blocks, notes and specifications
  • Read actual construction drawings
  • Identify the uses of technology to read and use drawings on the jobsite

Target Audience:

  • This course is mandatory for all apprentices.
  • This course is also available to all journeyworkers who wish to participate.
